Jerusalem Syndrome
Reuters has an interesting story on Jerusalem Syndrome, which occurs in some people when they visit Jerusalem for the first time and either see or begin to identify with people from the Bible. People have been known to begin preaching or set out on journeys, apparently without remembering a thing afterwards. The Jerusalem police have a task force to deal with people who experience this.
I have been to Jerusalem three times, but I didn’t experience this phenomenon. During my first visit I did become convinced that I was the reincarnation of W.F. Albright, but I don’t think that is the same thing. Some research quickly dispelled that idea, since I was born three years before Albright died.
