Blue Cord is a blog dedicated to the academic study of the Bible, particularly the Old Testament. Despite this, I also feel free to discuss any other topic of interest to me, which is why baseball, politics, and Star Trek are often mentioned.
The name of the blog comes from Numbers 15:37-41, which requires the Israelites to place tassels made out of blue cord on the corner of their garments to remind them to keep the commandments of God.
Blue Cord is run by me, Kevin A. Wilson. I am a freelance biblical scholar living in Massachusetts and Iowa, though I am originally from Tennessee. I have most recently served as lecturer in biblical studies at Lithuania Christian College in Klaipeda, Lithuania, a post I held from 2004-2006. I previously taught at Warburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. I am teaching at Wartburg College again during the current semester.
My primary area of research is the Pentateuch, with source criticism and the development of the Pentateuch receiving the majority of my attention. Eventually, I hope to write a history of the Israelite priesthood. My latest book, Conversations with Scripture: The Law, deals with the legal sections in the Torah.
I did my undergraduate degree at Carson–Newman College, majoring in religion and political science. I earned an M.Div. and S.T.M. at Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins University.
